4 Simple habits everyone should develop in 2020

How can you make a success of your life? Each of us would like to know the recipe, right? While most of us focus only on what successful people have, wear, and buy, we intend to forget what it takes to be successful.

Successful people are where they are because of their daily habits. What you do today determines what you will become tomorrow.

Luckily no miracle recipe will change your life in a day-night, yet there are habits to adopt to make your own experience more enjoyable and more successful.

1- Stay Healthy

There is a good reason why this habit is number 1.

If you are not in good shape, you will always feel sick, tired, stressed. So how can you move forward, take the small steps that will lead to your goal? Short answer: you can’t.

So take control of your health and start maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Here are some tips that can help you do that: 

A-Have a balanced diet:

This involves eating three full meals per day with 1 or 2 snacks if necessary. A healthy full meal means that it contains different nutrients essential to our body. For example, a good source of protein(fish, eggs, meat), a source of vegetables and fruits(sweet potato, tomato, avocado, blueberry) as well as grains(rice, maize, wheat) should be considered in each of your meals. On the other hand, it is better to avoid excessive consumption of saturated fats (cold cuts, whole dairy products, cheese, butter) and red meats.

B-Drink plenty of water through your day:

besides assuring the proper functioning of your body, water helps maintain your blood pressure and boost your skin health and beauty through hydration.

C- Exercise 4 days a week if possible :

If you don’t have time to go to the gym and exercise, try to run on the weekends. If it’s not possible, try simple things: take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk instead of taking the car. Do some home exercise. There are plenty of them on youtube. Kill laziness, Start now!

D- Sleep at least 7h per night:

A good sleep night can boost your mood and improve your relationships, as well. Studies have shown that going to bed before midnight and getting up early will get you in shape for the whole day. Cut off the screens half-hour before bed, and try reading a book instead. As Benjamin Franklin said:

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man, healthy, wealthy and wise.’

2- Plan and organize

One of the essential bases of all leaders.

With nowadays distraction, a person can get lost in his day doing random, worthless things that don’t contribute to his success nor future. It’s very similar when you go to the grocery shop without a shopping list. You have no idea what items you want to buy or how much money you want to spend. And eventually, you end up spending more money than you need buying things that you do not need.

Likewise, when you don’t plan for your future, your goals, your daily tasks, you are likely going to spend more energy on things you don’t need, which going to make it more challenging to achieve what you really want. On the other hand, planning for your day is another reason to wake up in the morning, Happy and motivated.

It is important to program, to anticipate. Otherwise, we will feel driven by the urgencies of the moment, and it is an unpleasant way to feel that our day escapes us, that we have no real influence, control over the course of our day. But you must know that a productive day is always prepared in advance and not in the morning. As John C. Maxwell put it so well:

Tomorrow’s productivity begins with today’s preparation

 Planning your day in advance is the best way to ensure your time is profitable during the day. This allows you to start each day, knowing exactly what to do and focus on your real priorities.

Here are some tips to achieve that:

  • Take an agenda to know your key dates of the day, the month or even the year.
  • Prepare your things the day before. Whether it’s the clothes you’ll wear, your sports outfit, meeting folders, a take-away meal … Make sure everything is ready before you even set foot on the floor in the morning!

3-take distance:

This is a great topic I would like to write a whole new article about.

But for now, let us just focus on what does take distance means?

A- Take distance from negative people:

You must be familiar with these people who suck everyone’s energy, consistently criticize the slightest facts. They always complain about their financial situation, their parents, their kids, their uncertain future, even about the person they love. They infuse around them intense negativity. The problem is that this negativity rubs off on the entourage. It is contagious, even for you.

Staying away from negative and toxic people is vital for your balance and success. And always remember:

“If you walked away from a toxic, negative, abusive, one-sided, dead-end low vibrational relationship or friendship, you won.” by Lalah Delia.

B -take distance from the news and social media:

The looping news announcing an attack in Irak, a war in Afghanistan, a murder of a child in Syria, a mass shooting in Texas. How does it help you with your daily life? Make it positive? I do not believe.

Knowing what is happening in the world will not change my current life. That does not stop me from having compassion, but I should protect my self. As for social networks, you do need to analyze and think which Instagram account, Facebook page should you follow if you are looking for inspiration.

4-Embrace Failure:

Failure hurts, I know. It brings with it a cloud of negative emotions: disappointment, sadness, frustration, and anger. Still, it’s your only way to success because it makes you more stronger, more mature, more knowledgeable.

Here are some exciting examples of men and women who have had a phenomenal career, having even made history. The list is far from exhaustive:

  • In politics, Winston Churchill was rejected by his own party from 1929 to 1939 for his “ideologies,” which later marked history with his politics and ideas.
  • In engineering, Thomas Edison’s teachers said about him “he was stupid and could learn nothing”; Albert Einstein also had big flaws.
  • In the art, producers refused Elvis Presley saying, “he’d better drive trucks and gave up music.”
  • In entrepreneurship, Henri Ford had a bad reputation due to his many failures in the automotive field. 
  • Walt Disney was fired from his first job in a newspaper by an editor because he lacks imagination.
  • Bill Gates saw his first company go bankrupt, before becoming one of the richest men in the world.
  • In the sport, Michael Jordan is considered one of the best basketball players in the world, but in high school, he was sidelined from the official team and had many discouragements.

Regardless of the chosen field and how failure is translated, it merely seems to be part of the success story of these great men and women.
