Black Clover Chapter 258 Discussion:
So this chapter is mostly Asta and Yami vs Dante, as was expected. They do a good job of holding their own during this, pretty much matching everything thrown at them with equal hits. Yami uses another Dark Magic: Death Thrust and obliterates Dante’s torso, but once again Dante simply regenerates it back again. Asta keeps trying to get some hits in but Dante keeps managing to strike him before he can land a blow with his sword.
In his frustration at this, Asta decides to call for back-up; he has a chat with the Anti-Magic devil inside his grimoire. It goes…..surprisingly well. Both seem perfectly willing to co-operate, the devil is surprised Asta has reached out to him but agrees to go along with it. Except……it’s a monkeys paw deal. He will help Asta in return for something from Asta too. A literal deal with the devil. The Anti-Magic coats Asta’s arm, this time more thicker, lined with veins and claws over the hands. It seems this deal may cost Asta his entire arm….but hey at least he managed to cancel the Singularity it seems I guess.
This was enjoyable as ever. Seeing Asta and Yami battle side by side was great to see, something that hasn’t happened in this way before, to see Yami having to rely on Asta’s help this time. The really juicy stuff came in the Devil talk. It’s been a while since we actually saw the Anti-Magi Devil do really anything, almost a year or so since he mocked Zagred as he died at the end of the Elf Saga (Jeez that happened like a year ago now…..). Giving the AMDevil more personality was nice, seeing this guy surprised at Asta’s openness and also the Devil not bothering to hide anything from Asta either was good, makes it feel like these guys will actually co-operate very well from now on. At least for now……
Black Clover Chapter 259 Spoilers & Predictions:
So now we get to the Naruto + Kurama stage of Asta’s development; overcoming and making peace with the devil inside. Ever heard of this little thing called metaphors………it’s obvious in the end Asta will befriend the AMDevil and work together as true allies. The issue with Naruto+Kurama was there was basically no lead-up, and their whole relationship changed pretty much overnight. If Black Clover can nail this though………oh boy could it be great.
The Devil seems reasonable, and clearly isn’t totally to be trusted but given how he seemed fine with everything Asta said and had no complaints, would make it seem he has his own plans in mind. But something about the way Asta acted seemed to hint he was well aware of all this and was willing to go along with it to achieve his own ambitions, and may have a contingency plan in place should the AMDevil try anything eventually. If Tabata lays this out right, having them grow closer and more trusting over the course of the story at a decent pace……this could become a great example of a trope done right. It seems the devil knows more than he is letting on for now, but it’s clear that truth will come out eventually.
Asta and Yami are going to get close to victory this next chapter I feel, start to push Dante to go further. They will lose, but I think it won’t be next chapter; perhaps at the end Dante will reveal something that proves he will win in the end, or something to that effect. I’d like to see Asta use the Demon Dweller Sword this time.
It can absorb magic and throw it back at the attacker, if Dante created another Singularity I could see Asta using Demon Dweller to absorb it and then use that against Dante, maybe to try to stop him regenerating in a way? I’m not sure how but if he could throw Dante’s own spell at him it could be very interesting to see what’s left of Dante afterwards.
